From what I gather, it's because of the “universal auto fill” feature. Apps on the App Store have to be sand boxed. And this feature doesn't honour that.

Before you can use 1Password for Mac to autofill your information in apps and browsers, you'll need to set up 1Password on your Mac. Then follow these steps: Choose Apple menu > System Settings. Click Privacy & Security in the sidebar, then click Accessibility in the list.

Using Apple's Keychain Instead Of 1Password

Life with Keychain is much simpler than relying on 1Password. Passwords and logins are automatically on all of my Apple devices; no app is required. While Keychain in iOS 14 and Big Sur do not support 2FA codes, they're still synced through iCloud.

Both make it possible to share passwords with other people, though LastPass makes it slightly easier. Both have password breach monitoring and password strength assessment (LastPass calls its Security Dashboard while 1Password calls it Watchtower). Both apps will support passkeys this year.

Check your settings

Open and unlock 1Password. Click your account or collection at the top of the sidebar and choose Settings. Click Browser in the sidebar and make sure “Connect with 1Password in the browser” is turned on. Get help if you see “We weren't able to connect to the 1Password extension in your browser."
